Stephenie Bergman (born 1946) studied painting at St Martin’s School of Art, London. She spent a period in the USA and is now based in France and Morocco. She has worked with clay for many years, making inventive objects often combined with other components, bringing to bear a searching life in abstraction that has also included painting, colourful stitched canvas and wood.
Bergman has created a wonderfully resourceful and imaginative furniture out of clay. She has made fresh surreal forms and functional pieces that draw on her multidisciplinary constructive experience, and an innate feeling for the intrinsic texture and structure of her materials, and how they can be transformed and given new and suggestive life.
